Your horse face skirt is a handcrafted piece—so with the right care, it can stay beautiful for 5+ years (we’ve had customers tell us their skirts still look new after 3 years of regular wear!). Here’s our step-by-step guide:
-
Washing: Always hand-wash (machine washing will damage the hand-folded pleats) in cold water (30°C/86°F max) with a mild, pH-neutral detergent (avoid bleach or fabric softener—they break down silk/cotton fibers). Gently swirl the skirt in the water; do not scrub or wring. Rinse until the water runs clear.
-
Drying: Lay the skirt flat on a clean towel (avoid hanging, as this stretches the waistband and distorts pleats). Roll the towel to absorb excess water (don’t twist), then lay the skirt on a drying rack in a cool, shaded area (direct sunlight fades plant-based dyes).
-
Storing: Fold the skirt along its original pleats (use a piece of cardboard between each pleat if you want to preserve shape long-term) and store it in a cotton dust bag (avoid plastic bags—they trap moisture). Keep it in a cool, dry closet (away from heaters or humid areas like bathrooms).
-
Wrinkle Care: If the skirt gets wrinkles, use a steam iron on the “low silk/cotton” setting—hold the iron 2–3 inches away from the fabric (do not press directly on pleats, as this flattens them permanently). Alternatively, hang it in a steamy bathroom for 10 minutes (the steam will relax wrinkles naturally).
Follow these tips, and your horse face skirt will remain a timeless piece in your North American wardrobe for years to come.
